Important questions based on NCERT syllabus for Class 9 Chapter 3 - Coordinate Geometry:
Question 1: Draw the graphs of:
(a) 3x-2y = 6 and y = -2 on the same pair of axes.
(b) A triangle ABC where vertices A, B and C are (0, 2), (2, -2), and (-2, 2) respectively.
(a) When x = 0, y = -3 and when y = 0, x = 2 and When y = -2, x = 0 or 1 or 2 and so on.
(b) Plot the point A by taking its abscissa 0 and ordinate as 2.
Similarly, plot points B and C. Join A, B and C. This is the required triangle.
Question 2: The points (other than the origin) for which the abscissa is equal to the ordinate lie in which quadrants?
Abscissa and ordinate are both positive in the first quadrant and both are again negative in the third quadrant.
If the abscissa and ordinate are both equal and positive, then they lie in the 1st quadrant. If both are equal but negative, they will lie in the 3rd quadrant.
Question 3: How many axes and quadrants are there in a Cartesian plane? What are the signs of abscissa and ordinate of a point in the second quadrant?
The Cartesian plane has 2 axes, i.e. X-axis and Y-axis
The Cartesian plan has 4 quadrants, namely 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
The sign of abscissa is - and that of ordinate is + in the second quadrant
