Question 1: In a city out of 15000 voters, 60 % voted. Find the number of voters who did not vote?
Solution:
Let the total voters = 100%
Voters who voted in % = 60%
=>Percentage of voters who did not vote = 100 -60 =40%
Total Voters = 15000
=> 40% of 15000 did not vote = 40% of 15000
= (40/100) of 15000
= (4/10) x 1500 = 6000
Thus, 6000 did not vote

Question 2: Ravi purchased an old scooter for Rs.12000 and spent Rs.2850 on its overhauling. Then he sold it to his friend for Rs 13860.How much percent did he gain or lose?
Solution:
Purchase price = Rs. 12000,
overheads = Rs.2850
Total cost price = Rs (12000 + 2850) = 14850
SP = Rs. 13860
Loss= Rs (14850-13860) = Rs. 990
Loss% = (990/14850) x 100 %
= 6(2/3) %
