**CBSE NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Chapter 1 - Knowing our Numbers:**

*Question 1*: Shekhar is a famous cricket player. He has so far scored 6980 runs in test matches. He wishes to complete 10,000 runs. How many more runs does he

need?

*Solution*:

Runs to achieve = 10,000

Runs scored = 6,980

Runs required = (10,000-6980) = 3,020

Therefore, Shekhar needs 3,020 more runs.

*Question 2*: If B is the mid-point of AC and C is the mid-point of BD , where A, B, C, D lie on a straight line, say why AB = CD?

*Solution*:

B is the mid-point of AC ,

therefore AB = BC ..........(i)

And C is the mid-point of BD .

therefore BC = CD..........(ii)

From eq. (i) and(ii),

AB = CD

*Question 3*: If there are 50 mangoes in a box, how will you write the total number of mangoes in terms of the number of boxes? (Use b for the number of boxes)

*Solution*: Number of boxes = b

Number of mangoes in each box = 50

Therefore, total number of mangoes = 50b

*Question 4*: Out of 30 students in a class, like football, 12 like cricket and remaining like tennis. Find

the ration of:

(a) Number of students liking football to number of students liking tennis.

(b) Number of students liking cricket to total number of students.

*Solution*:

(a) Total number of students = 30

Number of students like football = 6

Number of students like cricket = 12

Thus number of students like tennis = 30 – 6 – 12 = 12

(a) The ratio of students like football that of tennis = 6/12 = 1/2 = 1:2
